Dalena Huynh

She completed her undergraduate studies at the College of Charleston in 2016, earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Studio Art. During this time, she was actively involved in the campus community, promoting diversity and engaging in volunteer work in the Charleston area. Her education was further enriched by an internship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she created illustrations for a cancer research lab focused on immunotherapy.

Following graduation, she spent over six years as the Communications and Design Coordinator at the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, a non-profit organization. In this role, she developed expertise in graphic design, digital marketing, and website management, making significant contributions to the organization’s outreach and educational efforts. This experience solidified her skills in visual communication and prepared her for more specialized work in biomedical visualization.

In May 2023, she completed a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Visualization from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During her time in the program, she served as a BVIS Lab Graduate Assistant and took on leadership roles within the Student Association of Medical Artists (SAMA) and the Graduate Student Council. These positions allowed her to deepen her technical skills and apply them to creating educational resources, aligning her work with her passion for visualizing complex scientific concepts.

Her passion for education and healthcare is deeply personal, rooted in her experiences with cancer within her family. These challenges have driven her to create educational resources that support both patients and healthcare professionals. Today, she channels this passion into working with organizations such as Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Body Scientific International, LLC, Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., Integrate Ed., LLC, and the New England Journal of Medicine, focusing on making complex scientific ideas accessible and impactful through biomedical visualization.
